Seems backwards, doesn't it!

I enjoyed building the RV-8 so much, I thought I should do it again. Rather than repeating the same exact thing, I thought the RV-7 would be nice. I loved the 8 and miss it, but expect to enjoy the 7 at least as much. The typical piston aircraft engine has two magnetos, which are proven and effective. But the this EI is solid state, has variable timing and a hotter spark. I don't remember it being any worse than the rest of the fiberglass work. Just go slow when making cuts. Trial fit, cut, repeat, etc. I think I found the plans method of alignment worked OK (whatever that was). It wasn't necessary to lift the plane entirely off the ground to determine alignment because the RV-8 gear is not swept back like the other RV models. So just lift the tail to level flight and leave the mains on the ground. The brake caliper interference is probably because the one set of wheel pants is made to fit both the RV-8 and the other round gear model RV's. Anyway, hang in there. It will all be worth it and the misery of fiberglass work will soon be forgotten -- as I've just demonstrated. :)
